2001 - Original iPod

Stats:
  • "Scroll Wheel" controller

How it revolutionized my life:
  • Being able to carry music around with me anywhere completely changed the way that I interacted with music, and the part that it played in my life.  Which is no small feat.
  • The growing connection with music that the iPod granted led me to listen to and purchase many different albums and songs that I may never have appreciated before.
  • This led to many new musical experiences and a widening of my musical tastes, which in turn, has turned me into a more interesting person.
Its effect on the computer market:
  • Yet again, this device changed everything in the tech market.  This is starting to sound familiar.
  • It solidified Apple's reputation in the industry, and even the most die-hard IBM-lover could be seen playing with their iPod when they thought no-one was looking.  Proof of this? The Zune. Which I have yet to see in person.
  • Mobile mp3 players are now beyond commonplace, and the shape and functionality of the iPod has acted as a cornerstone for many more of Apple's products to come.
  • Also:  iTunes!!!
